History
BRIEF HISTORY
Established as the Catholic Young Men Association (CYMA) in 1994, from St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland, Lagos, by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Kevin McGarry, SMA.
In 2013, the Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, changed the name to Catholic Brothers United (CBU) and upgraded it to include all male Catholics, with the directive that it should be established in all parishes of the Archdiocese.
OUR CORE VALUES
- Foster unity, promote friendship, and brotherly love among male Catholics in the Church.
- Deepen the Catholic faith of members and make their Christianity come alive.
- Encourage male Catholics to be actively involved in supporting the evangelical works of the Church rather than sitting on the fence.
- Be ever ready to assist the Parish in pursuing her vision, mission, mandate, objectives or any other activities whenever called upon.
OUR CORE EVANGELICAL TOOLS
- Annual lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, and conferences.
- Quarterly retreat programs, novenas, charity visitations.
- Welfare and well-being programs for members.
MEET OUR PATRON SAINT- St. Timothy of Lystra is the Patron Saint of CBU. We celebrate his Feast Day on January 26th following a nine-day novena.
CBU Anthem
1. Fight the good fight with all thy might,
Christ is thy strength, and Christ thy right,
Lay hold on life and it shall be,
Thy joy and crown eternally!
2. Faint nor fear, His arms are near changeth not,
And thou shall see,
Only believe and thou shall see,
That Christ is all and all to thee,
Amen!
